The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

STEP FORWARD PROGRAM - 2025 Amount Funded: $5,000.00
It is estimated that the $5000.00 requested in this application will provide up to three months of rental assistance for the current program participants. The positive end impact to the community can be measured by the successes achieved when students in the school district and workers in local businesses have the security of safe and affordable housing, and supportive case management services.
The STEP FORWARD PROGRAM will support families and individuals in the geographic area of the Stoughton School District who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to achieve housing stability, increase self-sufficiency and explore opportunities to develop greater self-determination. Research shows that the Housing First Model is the most effective way to address the barrier of unstable and unaffordable housing while providing case management services. The Step Forward Program will secure safe and affordable rental housing and assist participants in guiding their own journey by providing case management services that include advocacy, support, and access to resources. Grant funds will be used to provide rent assistance to the three participants currently enrolled in the program: two families with children enrolled in Stoughton schools and one senior adult. It is estimated that the board members and other active volunteers will commit over 500 hours annually to planning and implementing the program.
