The Stoughton Area Resource Team, Inc. (START) provides a safety net for those in crisis. Recently, a 30-year old single father of two struggled to find work, to pay for daycare for his children and to secure a home; so much time was spent homeless and hopeless.

STEP FORWARD PROGRAM - 2024 Amount Funded: $4,000.00
The funds requested from this grant will provide support for up to three months assistance for the current two program participants, including rent and services of the case manager and housing navigator, and allow for at least one more participant to be accepted into the program. The positive impact to the community is measured by the successes achieved when students in the school district and workers in local businesses have the security of safe and affordable housing with supportive case management services.
The STEP FORWARD PROGRAM supports families and individuals in the geographic area of the Stoughton school district who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to achieve housing stability and increase self-sufficiency by pursuing opportunities to develop greater self-determination. Research shows that this housing-first model is the most effective way to address the barrier of unstable and unaffordable housing while providing case management services that include advocacy, support, and access to resources. Depending on the ability to secure appropriate safe and affordable rental units it is the goal to assist at least three program participants in the coming 12-month period. Past experience shows that the board of directors and other active program supporters will commit during this period over 300 volunteer hours to the planning and implementation of the program.
