LOV - Life of a Viking - 2016 Amount Funded: $1,500.00
We need to continue to educate our students on the effects on athletic performance if they use drugs or alcohol. For example, alcohol has been shown to slow muscles recovery because it is a powerful diuretic that can cause electrolyte imbalances. Athletes are working hard during the week, we want to give them something positive to participate in on the weekends. Research shows us that being involved produces a greater GPA, attendance rate and reduces dropouts. We want our students to live a drug and alcohol free life.
On a monthly basis coaches and athletes from each sport will host an activity night to give athletes something positive to do on weekend nights to avoid parties, where drinking and drugs may be happening. Each month the activities will vary and will run from 8 pm - 11 pm on a weekend night. The students will generate ideas and be a strong lead in the activities.
